There’s not a food that I love more than pork! Whether it be chorizo, bacon, pork belly, ribs, chops, tenderloin, Chicharrones, or what have you, I truly just can get enough. And I’ll take it any way it comes too: slow roasted, grilled, fried, crackled, pulled, dry-rubbed or dripping with BBQ sauce. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine too!

Luckily, all my dreams are about to come true this Saturday, as I’ll have the pleasure of escaping to an island (at least we can pretend Red Hook is an island for the day); the only island where I can find people with the same intense passion for pork as I have. That’s right, it’s time for my first visit to Pig Island, an annual pork festival in Brooklyn, where I’ll get to sample food from a long list of local chefs and restaurants, with celebrity judged contests, beer, hard cider and spirits, live music, and most importantly, all things PIG.

I can’t wait to share my experience afterward here on CulEpi, but if you’re in the area, just can join me this Saturday by purchasing tickets on the Pig Island website. Tickets are $85 online for an all-inclusive, all-you-can-pig-out pass to the event, which will be taking place this Saturday, September 8th from 11:30AM-4:30PM at Erie Basin Park in Brooklyn, NY 11231.
Here’s to being as happy as a pig in the mud! Hope to see you there!
